Deep Purple Sugilite Jewelry in Sterling Silver	Sugilite is a very rare mineral named after the Japanese geologist who discovered the first specimens in 1944, Ken-ichi Sugi. This uniquely beautiful stone has become very popular in the jewelry trade. It has a very distinctive color when found in its most desirable color shades. The polished stones are mostly opaque with an almost waxy luster and a deep violet color and usually exhibit a matrix of black to white. It has been described as a purple turquoise although there is no relation between the two gemstones. Some sugilite has been cut into gemstones, but these are very rare and, therefore very valuable.
